Coming to a Nursery Near You: a portrait I do not want

  • Mom On The Run · 1 year ago
I had that same hard look into a mirror just before we went on holidays. I knew that lots of pictures would be taken - some even of me! I wanted the pictures to capture a dazzling mom that looked happy. To hell with how "good" I look - I just wanted to look happy. So I cut off my hair, and made extra effort to do my make up every day before we headed out, and you know what? Looking better (I won't say that I looked good) made me feel better! How we chose to present us often is a reflection of our current state of mind, our self-esteem. Taking a few moments for ourselves every morning makes us feel better, and which in turn makes us look better.

Um, I work out of the home, and have the undyed, unstyled, uncut (for 9 months in my case) over 50% gray hair, the bags under the eyes, and the extra 20 lbs not lost after each of my 3 kids (yes, that's a total of 60 pounds!). I definitely would not recommend getting a job outside the home as a way to deal with any of those - in my case I think it makes them worse... I'm so with you on this one. And I'm so NOT the portrait of the mother I thought I'd be. Sigh.

You are the only one who can fix you. The first thing you need to do is start loving who you are right this minute. Stop worrying about wrinkles and grays and start loving them for being a part of you. Once you can look in the mirror at yourself and see all the good stuff, then you can make changes to the not so good.
I think you are a faboo mommy and a terrific person. *smooches*

I understand how you feel. My appearance has definitely taken a backseat these days, and I only have 1 child! I bet you are extremely beautiful to your children and your husband, though. We are always too tough on ourselves, I think.

Dawn girl you're far too hard on yourself here, stop that right now! You want something changed? It's got nothing to do with working outside the home, you know that. You're where you are supposed to be and I'm certain your children feel the same way. Working outside the home is great if you want to do that, but don't let your status now hold you back from being the best Dawn girl there is. I adore you.
